CSE goes rural

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) plans to educate the country's rural public on investing in the stock market.

The country's rural community can also contribute a lot to the Colombo Stock Market, the world's best performing stock market, which was earlier mainly invested by urbanites, the Chairperson of Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) Indrani Sugathadasa said.

In a live discussion program at the state-run radio SLBC, Sugathadasa said that the CSE has expanded its facilities and services to cater to the investors’ needs so that not only the large investors but small investors too can also invest in CSE.

Several programs have been created to raise awareness among the general public on investing, she said, adding that the financial education unit of the SEC has organized many awareness programmes island wide to educate the public.

Under these initiatives CSE will be holding a series of workshops in Kandy. The first of the series on "Introducing the CSE" will be on March 8 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. The second workshop will be held on March 17. Those interested can register themselves at no. 88, Dalada Veediya, Kandy.
