International Buddhist conference in Kandy

Sri Lanka and India will hold an International Buddhist Conference in Kandy in March to celebrate the 2600th year of Buddha’s enlightenment.

A meeting was held between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a visiting Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar to discuss the upcoming conference as well as the commissioning of the 16-feet high Buddha statue at the International Buddhist Museum in Kandy.

Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's plans to arrange an exposition for the sacred Kapilvastu relics in Sri Lanka as well as future parliamentary exchanges between the two countries were also discussed at the meeting.

President Rajapaksa welcomed these initiatives and said he is also looking forward to many developmental projects in Sri Lanka including the housing project as well as the rehabilitation of the railway network in the North.
