Waste water management in Colombo & Kandy

 

The government has launched several projects to improve drainage facilities throughout the country.

The Colombo Southern Catchment Rehabilitation Project was completed last year, at a cost of Rs.2, 222 million. Nearly 180,000 persons are benefiting from this project.

Another mega project which is presently being implemented is the Phase I Waste Water Disposal Project for Ratmalana, Moratuwa, Ja-Ela and Ekala areas. 80,000 families will benefit from this project which costs Rs.16, 155 million.

Also, Kandy City Waste Water Disposal Project; a massive project to solve the waste water disposal problem in the Kandy city is to be implemented. The total cost of this project will amount to Rs.22, 591 million, and the project will benefit 55,000 families resident in the city limits and another 150,000 floating population.
