Under the directive of the Ministry of Construction Engineering Services Housing and Common Amenities, the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has implemented a project to build 60, 000 houses island wide this year.
Under this project, ‘Jana Sevana Million Houses Housing and Settlement Drive’, loan facilities will be provided to low-income, middle –income and high- income families who are willing to build houses. The government has allocated Rs.800 million to grant loans in this regard, the General Manager of NHDA Mr. Plalansuriya said.
In addition, state banks; Bank of Ceylon, Peoples’ Bank and National Savings Bank have allotted Rs.4500 million to provide loans to at least 20, 000 families in the country.
With this initiative, the Construction Engineering Services Housing and Common Amenities Ministry is dedicated to construct 360,000 houses beginning from next year.
Accordingly, two houses in each Grama Niladhari Division will be constructed each year to reach this target.
