Don’t exploit younger generation for political gains - President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he will never allow anyone to exploit the younger generation in this country for political gains.

The President, who was addressing UPFA supporters in the Hambantota district, yesterday (14) said the opposition is trying to attain their petty political objectives by exploiting the country’s younger generation.

Meetings were held at the Lunugamvehera Diyawara Gammanaya, Tangalle, Debarawewa, Pannagamuwa and Tissamaharama.

“The opposition is doing this by spreading false rumours that there were moves to extend the daily school hours. They are doing this to mislead the school children,” the President said.

Secretary to President Mr. Lalith Weeratunge recently categorically denied any decision to extend school hours. He said there is no such a decision taken by the government.

President added the opposition was resorting to such lowly tactics to disrupt the Government’s program of work because it had nothing pragmatic to say in the open.

The President later attended a program to commemorate the victims of JVP terror at the Tangalle bus stand.
