Sri Lanka yesterday donated three million packets of tea worth US$ 60,000 to the tsunami affected people of Japan.
The Sri Lanka Tea Exporters Association Chairman Jayantha Keragala handed over the donation to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday to be sent to Japan. Plantation Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Ambassador designate to Japan Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Tea Board Chairman Susantha Ratnayake and Association Vice Chairman Rohan Fernando were present. The earthquake and tsunami which hit Japan claimed over 15,000 lives and over 200,000 are displaced.
