LLRC hearings in Ampara & Monaragala

The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) will hold its next public sittings in Ampara and Monaragala Districts.

The Commission will visit these districts from March 25 to 27.

Field visits to these areas had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions in the areas at the time.

Therefore, the commission will proceed to obtain evidence on 25th, 26th and 27th in both districts.

The Commission has already begun the preparation of the final reports on the evidence they have gathered from the public sessions it held for the past six months.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in May 2010 appointed the eight-member Commission to report on the lessons to be learnt from the events in the period from 21st February 2002 to 19th May 2009. The Commission is chaired by the former Attorney General Chitta Ranjan de Silva.

The Commission will hand over its final report to the President in May.
