New elephant orphanage in Ulankulama

 
A new interim elephant orphanage is being constructed at Ulankulama in the North Central Province by the Ministry of Agrarian Services and Wildlife.

The new orphanage is situated at Ulankulama, along the A-12 highway from Puttalam to Trincomalee.

The new interim orphanage will also be used for treating injured elephants from ranges such as Kurunegala, Puttalam and Anuradhapura.

Currently, wildlife authorities transport animals injured in human-elephant conflicts to the interim elephant orphanage in Udawalawe in the Ratnapura district.
