Two islands in the 14 island chain of the Kalpitiya Tourist Zone have been leased out for development of Tourist resorts.
The islets ‘Vellai’ and ‘Ippanativu’ off Kalpitiya have been leased out to two companies from India, Switzerland and Maldives.
The Vellai Island had been leased for a joint investment with Sri Lanka, Maldives and Switzerland while the Ippanativu Island had been given to an Indian company.
The basic lease for the Vellai Islet for the first five years is Rs.3, 709,999.88. The lease payment is amended once every five years. The Basic lease for the Ippanativu Islet for the first five years is Rs.14, 914,397.40 and this again, is amended once every five years, quoting the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena development.lk reported.
According to the Deputy Minister, the Vellai Islet had been leased to Sun Resort Investment Lanka Private Limited while the Ippanativu Islet had been leased out to Cube Leisure Property Private Ltd.
