International hotel chains Marriot and Hyatt have shown interest in building hotels in the Hambantota city, which is bidding for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Marriot and Hyatt have looked for land in Hambantota to build hotels, though no applications have yet been made to authorities, Nalaka Godahewa Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism said. The two chains may build hotels of 200 rooms each in Hambantota which will form part of a 'sports city' if Sri Lanka wins the Commonwealth Games bid, Lanka Business Online reported quoting Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman said.
The sports city will need about 4,000 rooms, he said.
