‘Jana Sabhas’ for community participation

President Mahinda Rajapaska stated that ‘Jana Sabhas’ will be established for the community to participate in development activities of their areas.
He said so during a meeting with editors of print and electronic media institutions today at Temple Trees.

The ‘Jana Sabhas’, headed by District Secretariats, will comprise a consultative group which includes respected members of the community such as retired teachers, school principals, members of the clergy etc. who will be involved in administration as well.

They will be involved in identifying and providing solutions to problems faced by the people in their areas, the President said adding that for around 40% of Grama Seva divisions there are no Grama Niladharis (village officers).

He added that through the establishment of ‘Jana Sabhas’, the community will have the practical knowledge of administration to identify development needs of their areas.
