Amunugama assumes duties


A career diplomat Karunathilake Amunugama assumed duties as the new Foreign Secretary for the External Affairs Ministry yesterday.

Mr. Amunugama who was the previous Sri Lankan Ambassador to China succeeds Romesh Jayasinghe as the new Foreign Secretary.

Mr. Amunugama joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1985 and has served widely in Asia, including as Second Secretary in Cairo, Counselor to the Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore, and as Ambassador to Thailand and Japan before coming to China.
