Kithul & palmyrah industry to be uplifted


The Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development has implemented a programme to modernize Kithul and Palmyrah related products in order to improve its marketing opportunities and usages.

While developing the traditional industries of the country, importance would also be given for the Kithul and Palmyrah based products, said Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda at the meeting with regards to the exhibition and marketing sales of Kithul and Palmyrah based products at the Government Information Department in Narahenpitiya recently.

It is noteworthy that products produced from Kithul and Palmyrah are playing an important part, he added.

He said that although three million Kithul trees have been identified in the county, only ninety thousand have been subjected to usage and similarly activities would be undertaken to improve the usage of palmyrah products too.

Minister Devananda also pointed out that while improving the usage of Kithul and Palmyrah based products countrywide, measures would be taken to improve the industrial departments furthermore with the high technologies available in the country.
