Remote villages will be wiped out from SL map - President

The government will work towards wiping out remote villages from Sri Lanka's map as it eliminated border villages uniting the country and the public employees should serve as leaders in Sri Lanka's endeavour to become the "Wonder of Asia", President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

Handing over letters of appointment to 2,300 new recruits to the Public Management Service at the Temple Trees yesterday, the President said the present government had discharged a significant service to solidify the public service and urged the new recruits to take the lead to make the country "Asia's Miracle".

Speaking in both Sinhala and Tamil languages, the President emphasized that new employees should be ready to serve on behalf of the people from anywhere in the country and should not forget that everyone in the country pursued studies with the public money.

The fresh management assistants are a batch of 3,396 new recruits to the service selected through a competitive examination.

The Ministry of State Administration and Local Affairs was permitted by the government to fill 5,000 vacancies in the 3rd grade of the management assistant service. The rest of the appointments have been given to the junior staff promoted through an internal process.

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga also addressed the new management assistants.
