SL has no radiation threat

No people affected by radiation or radio active contamination were found in any material or vehicles in the tests carried out by the Atomic Energy Authority since the nuclear disaster in Japan, said Atomic Energy Authority Chairman W Abeywickrama.

Addressing the media at the Atomic Energy Authority in Orugodawatta yesterday, he said that there is no need to panic over the risk of radiation transmitted through the wind as the air waves coming from Fukushima is carried towards the Atlantic Ocean via the Pacific.

Thirty three rainwater samples collected from across the country were tested by the authority. They prove that rain water was also not contaminated by radiation, said the chairman.

The AEA conducts tests to ascertain whether sea water is contaminated by radiation as Japan released over 10,000 tons of contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean, he said.
