President directs police to prevent music piracy

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed the Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya to take stern action against the copyrights pirates who sell the music creations of Sri Lankan singers.

The President has directed the police to take actions against the sale of pirated copies of music CDs of local artistes after they complained to the President regarding the matter.

The Ministry of Information and Media has taken action to pay royalty to the artistes for their music aired by state owned radio and television stations. The President at the ceremony held on Friday, April 7 handed the first installment of royalties.
