President Mahinda Rajapaksa remains the most influential among political leaders worldwide by readers of TIME, in voting by TIME readers worldwide for inclusion in the TIME 100 list.
The Sri Lankan President now ranks fourth in the list among 203 personalities voted, which included leaders, artists, innovators, icons, and heroes who TIME readers considered the most influential persons. His current tally of votes is 163,257.
He topped the voting for the most influential among national leaders, receiving 68,464 votes from TIME readers worldwide, at the time the voting was taken for the next print edition of TIME on April 21. He was sixth among all categories at that time, and has steadily moved up to fourth among all categories voted for, retaining the top position among national leaders.
The most influential personality, according to TIME readers, was Rain, the South Korean singing sensation who has huge popularity in South East Asia, and wins the honour of being included in the TIME 100 - 2011.
Among political leaders who trail far behind President Rajapaksa are: President Hu Jintao of China (9,364 votes), President Barack Obama (9,513), US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (6,126), Myanmar’s Aung Sang Suu Kyi (3,768), , Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (2,269), India’s Congress leader Sonia Gandhi (1,755), UK Prime Minister David Cameron (1,790) and US Vice President Joe Biden (4,989).
The official online voting by TIME readers for the TIME 2011 closed at midnight USA on April 14, to enable the voting till then to be included in the April 21 edition of TIME. However TIME kept voting by readers open until the publication of this edition of TIME, revealing the TIME 100.
