The National Heritage Ministry has taken action to proclaim three ports in Northern Province and some temples close to them as historic sites.
Accordingly, these ports which were used for anchoring the ships in the past will get the recognition for the historical places that express the Tamil cultural identity as World Heritage sites, quoting the Minister of National Heritage Dr. Jegath Balasuriya, EPDP news reported.
The Ministry is in the process of proposing them to the UNESCO to be named as World Heritage sites.
The excavating activities will be soon carried out in the nearby areas of the concerned ports. Consent has been reached to get assistance for this effort from the German Government.
