E-Kiosk centres to plantation people
 

 

The government has taken steps to establish 35 new e-Kiosk Centres under the project to set up e-Kiosk centres with internet and satellite communication facilities for the benefit of plantation people.

These centres will be established by the Saumyamoorth Thondaman Memorial Foundation, established under an Act of Parliament. The Foundation has planned to 450 Prajashakthi (Community strengthening) centres in which these e-kiosk centres will become part of it.

The Cabinet also approved Rs.200 Million to provide 270 computers and other equipment to the 45 centres which have already established.

This programme is funded by the government in accordance with the government’s objective of keeping pace with moving towards a knowledge based society as stipulated in President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s policy statement of Mahinda Chintana.
