Members to Bribery and Public Services Commissions nominated

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has nominated members for the Bribery and Public Service Commissions.

The Parliament Council would meet this Thursday to give its observations on the nominations made by the President.

Retired Supreme Court Judge Jagath de S. Balapatabendi has been named to head the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption while Prof. Dayasiri Fernando (Gastroenterologist) has been named to head the Public Service Commission.
The President had nominated names to the two commissions in accordance with the 18th Amendment and the powers vested in him.

In February this year, Rajapaksa nominated the chairman and members of the Human Rights Commission which was later approved by the Parliamentary Council.

The independent commissions that are to be appointed with the recommendation of the Parliament Council are the Election Commission, Public Service Commission, National Police Commission, Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, Permanent Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption, Finance Commission and Delimitation Commission.
