Raj Rajaratnam convicted of fraud and conspiracy by US has given more than US $3.5 million to the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) whose assets were frozen by the U.S. Treasury Department in November 2007, for making contributions to the terrorist organization- LTTE.
Documents in a federal criminal complaint filed in New York’s Eastern District, allege money donated to TRO of Cumberland, Maryland had been funneled to buy arms for the LTTE, banned as an international organization by the USA.An FBI agent cites documents uncovered in court-authorized searches as showing donations to TRO, USA made by a person identified only as “individual B.”
Rajaratnam is the person identified as “individual B,” said the paper, and is the single largest known U.S. contributor to a charity linked to the LTTE.
The TRO accounts were suspended in Sri Lanka in 2008.
