PM to attend UN Vesak celebrations in Thailand

Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratna will leave for Thailand today (May 13) to attend the United Nations Vesak celebrations to be held in Ayutthaya in Bangkok on the invitation of Thai Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kajornprasart.

The celebrations are organized by the Machachulalongkornraja Vidyalaya University of Bangkok.

A communique issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said the celebrations will be attended by a large number of delegates from Buddhist countries.
The United Nations declared Vesak Poya Day as an international day in 1999.
