Diyagama Stadium construction expedited

The second stage construction work of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Diyagama, Homagama has been expedited. This work includes construction of an Indoor Stadium, Hostel Facilities, a Swimming Pool and a Cricket Stadium.

The first stage of this stadium was declared open in January. The hostels are being constructed with all modern facilities, and the swimming pool will be up to international standards.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa inspected the current construction work recently and instructed the officials that when water facilities are being obtained to the stadium they should ensure that water facilities for the people of the surrounding areas are also given along with it.

The President has also instructed that a sports ground should also be constructed for the children in the surrounding areas.

This stadium is being constructed in a land area of 126 acres. 51 acres will cover sports ground and buildings, and the remaining 75 acres will be used for the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and medicinal herbs under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture.
