Swift measures to assist flood victims |

The Government is taking all necessary measures to support those affected by floods. Arrangements have been made to provide them with shelter, dry rations, medicine and other emergency needs.
The DMC had deployed 2 Navy boats to Ruwanwella and 2 to Avissawella to assist flood victims and the government is coordinating with local government authorities, security forces and NGOs to support flood victims. In addition the DMC arranged 10 water pumps from Colombo DDMCU and 5 from Gampaha DDMCU to kegalle.
02 Navy boats also provided to Kaduwela Div Sec and 2 Navy boats to Malwana & Sinharamulla.
By Yesterday (May 29) nearly 17,000 persons from 4,475 families have been affected due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in many parts of the country, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
Among the districts the worst hit are Kegalle, Galle, Kalutara, Colombo andGampaha. There were also six deaths due to floods and weather related incidents, DMC said. In addition 48 houses have been fully damaged and 234 houses partially damaged by the floods.
Currently the flood waters were receding in several low lying areas.
