The Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasooriya submitted his resignation papers to President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.

The retired IGP will go on leave with immediate effect until retirement date on June 18.
Senior DIG N.K. Illangakoon will function as the acting IGP until an appointment is made after the retirement of IGP Mahinda Balasuriya.
