Army build houses for IDPs

The Sri Lanka Army has provided 1230 displaced families in Jaffna with houses at an approximate cost of Rs. 250 million.

The houses have been constructed by the Sri Lanka Army last year at a cost of Rs. 200,000 per house. With the aim of uplifting the living standards in the Jaffna peninsula, an idea conceptualized by the Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya, these houses have been built up in selected places, under the supervision of Commander of Security forces-Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.

The construction process has been altogether handled by the members of the armed forces, with the assistance of donors in Jaffna. Special attention has been paid to the housing need of those who had lost their loved ones during the Humanitarian Operation against the LTTE.

The construction of 300 more houses is already underway.
