The Cabinet granted approval to appoint a seven- member Inter-Ministerial Committee to review the progress achieved in the five year National Information and Communication Development Plan (2011 – 2016).

The objectives of this plan include $ 100 million export income by the year 2016, Creation of 100,000 job opportunities in the field of Information and Communication Technology, increase the level of Information Technology literacy rate up to 75% by 2016 and Establishment of Information and Communication Technology Centres at 25 main cities.

The Cabinet approval was granted according to a proposal made by Minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
