The Cabinet yesterday decided to extend the period for the compilation of glossaries of technical terms English-Sinhala and English-Tamil by two years.

This project was initiated as part of the Government’s endeavour to foster national harmony and reconciliation among the people in the country. The transfer of technical terms in English which functions as a link language, into a uniform set of technical terms in Sinhala and Tamil will contribute to the improvement of the language skills of the people.

In the face of an increasing demand for these glossaries at present, the Cabinet granted approval to appoint a consultative panel to complete the work of these glossaries within a period of two years, on a proposal made by Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Wasudeva Nanayakkara.
