Developed road network to Jaffna by 2013

The government has started improvements and reconstructions of all main roads in the Jaffna peninsula under the Uthuru Wasanthaya development project for the North.

Under this, 14 of A class roads, 9 of B class roads and 5 bridges in Jaffna will be improved.

Widening and carpeting of Jaffna-Point Pedro road was completed a few months ago.
Reconstruction of Jaffna-Palaly road and Jaffna Kankesanthurai road is now in progress. Rs.2000 million has been allocated for these two roads by the government.

The A-9 main road abandoned for years due to terrorist activities is now being revived with Chinese aid.

Constructions of these roads commenced in March this year and the Road Development Authority (RDA) has planned to complete them in September 2013, according to Chief Engineer RDA Jaffna V. Suthakaran.

Two main bridges on Jaffna-Karainagar road (via Manipay) and Sorampaththu-Thalaiady road were also reconstructed recently.
