24-hour information on detainees

 

A round-the-clock mechanism has been established in three centres to provide details of the detainees and those who are already released from detention by the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID).

According to a public notice issued by the TID, details of the detainees could be obtained by visiting

  - Terrorist Investigation Division, Second Floor, New Secretariat   Building, Colombo 1

  - Terrorist Investigation Unit, Kandy Road, Vavuniya (Opposite the    DIG's office)

    Tel: 024 3243207

  - Terrorist Investigation Unit, Racecourse Road, Boosa, Galle

    Tel: 091- 2267084

Details of these detainees will be issued only to the spouse/ children/ parents or brother/ sister.

Those who seek information should establish their identity through a certificate issued by either the OIC or the Gramasevaka of the area of residence.

In January this year President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed special committee appointed to study the cases of detained LTTE suspects and expedite legal actions where necessary.

The committee headed by Deputy Solicitor General Shavindra Fernando and includes Senior State Counsel P. Kumararatnam, Chethiya Goonesekera and Dinal Ratnayake follows a recommendation by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
