International community & UN should support SL - Spanish PM

 

The international community and the United Nations should support Sri Lanka in its post-war development, Prime Minister of Spain Jose Luis Zapatero said.

The Spanish Prime Minister made these observations when he met President Mahinda Rajapaksa in St. Petersburg this evening on the sidelines of the 15th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

President Rajapaksa briefed the Spanish PM on the reconciliation and resettlement process undertaken by the government and the economic progress of the country after eradicating terrorism.

Prime Minister Zapatero commended Sri Lanka's efforts to resettle nearly 95 percent of the 300,000 people, displaced during the humanitarian operation against LTTE.

The President has also requeted the Spanish investors to start business ventures in Sri Lanka.


Meanwhile, President Rajapaksa who is on the last day of his three-day visit to Russia made floral tribute to war monument in Leningrad that honors the efforts of people and soldiers of Leningrad against the invasive Nazi forces during World War II.

The President and the Sri Lankan delegation also visited the St. Petersburg war museum.
