Jaffna hospital to be further developed

 

Jaffna hospital is to be further developed to enhance the health facilities in the district.
The total allocation made for this development work is three billion rupees. Financial grants are being channeled by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Among the facilities to be provided includes an OPD unit, surgical wards, emergency treatment unit, laboratory services and rest rooms for the hospital staff. Civilians in Jaffna as well as in the Kilinochchi and Mullative Districts will benefit immensely by the upgrading of the Jaffna Hospital.

Meanwhile, a new eye clinic affiliated to the Jaffna Hospital was opened recently. Accordingly, the Health Ministry, under its “Vision 2020” programme has provided many facilities to eye patients in the Jaffna District, including granting of contact lenses free of charge.

Currently, the Jaffna hospital also serves as the teaching hospital for the Medical Faculty of the Jaffna University is the main hospital with state of the art health facilities to serve the northern peninsula.
