Acting HC refutes unsubstantiated allegations in Channel 4

Witnesses never said they were attacked by SL Army

Refuting unsubstantiated allegations in “Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields”, Acting High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in London P. M. Amza questioned the motive behind Channel 4’s vindictive campaign against Sri Lanka.

"Tamils who appeared in Channel 4 footage never said they were attacked by the Sri Lankan Army. So who gave the permission for Channel 4 to say those attacks were carried out by our security forces, the Acting High Commissioner asked.

Citing 3 previous occasions when Channel 4 aired fabricated documentaries on Sri Lanka, the Acting High Commissioner in a debate broadcast live by BBC Asian Network from its Television Centre in London said Channel 4 has a history of discrediting Sri Lanka at very crucial times.

Mr. Amza emphasised that Sri Lanka has set a domestic mechanism in motion to look into all matters of concern. He pointed out glaring errors in the film and instances where the broadcaster has taken the liberty even to misrepresent what is heard in Tamil. He charged the producer of blatant bias.

There is no recognition in the documentary about the sacrifices made by the security forces while rescuing civilians, the Acting High Commissioner said.

The debate had three other guests in it, Callum Macrae, the producer of Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields, Vanchees Janartharan, a representative from Tamil Welfare Association in the UK and Chathura Jayatissa, a youth representative from Sinhala community.
