SL, Bahrain sign MoU to avoid double taxation

 

The Bahraini Minister of Finance, Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday.

During the meeting, the Bahrain Finance Minister conveyed a message from the Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and the message focused on
enhancing co-operation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Sri Lanka.

The two countries signed an agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income (DTA) between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The DTA will eliminate the double payment of taxes by nationals and enterprises of each of the two countries in the territory of the other. Sri Lanka currently maintains such agreements with 41 countries.

Senior Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Minister Al Kalifa signed the agreement on behalf of their countries.

Minister al Khalifa welcomed the signing and hoped it would bolster economic co-operation and joint investment between the Kingdom and Sri Lanka.

During his meeting with the President, the Bahraini Finance Minister also engaged in a friendly conversation with the school children who came to see Temple Trees
