India offers service for Lankans of Indian origin to trace their roots

 

The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) of Government of India has launched a scheme called "Tracing the Roots" in October 2008 to facilitate Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in tracing their roots in India.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo said Sri Lankan PIOs who intend to trace their roots in India can apply for the service in a formal application form.

The PIOs can apply in the prescribed form through the High Commission of India in Colombo, Consulates General of India in Jaffna and Hambantota and Assistant High Commission of India in Kandy by depositing the prescribed fee of Rs.72,480 that has to be paid at the time of applying.

In case the search is not successful, a sum of Rs.48,320 will be returned to the applicant.
