Canada to assist national languages project |
|

|
Canada, through Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), is contributing $5.6 million to support the efforts of the Government in implementing its Official Languages Policy.
Canada and Sri Lanka share a long history of development cooperation, beginning with the Colombo Plan established in 1950. This cooperation continues today, with Canada's development program in Sri Lanka focused on the promotion of equitable and sustainable economic growth, stated Beverley J. Oda, Canadian Minister of International Cooperation.
The Government has identified the promotion of official languages as a key component in these efforts, he said.
Canada is proud of its tradition of tolerance and practical experience in protecting and promoting official languages. And, through Canada's contribution to the national languages project, we are pleased to share our expertise and experience with Sri Lanka, the Canadian Minister added.
