Ferry service in high demand

The Ceylon Shipping Corporation and ticketing agencies receive more than 350 calls per day to book seats in Colombo - Tuticorin ferry service which began on June 8.

The ferry service is now transporting more than 400 passengers twice a week between Colombo and Tuticorin. Ticket prices range from between Rs.5500 to Rs.75, 000 for economy, business class and super luxury class.

According to the Ports and Aviation Ministry, so far this ferry service was most used by Sri Lankan and Indian garment manufacturers and those related with the industry.

The ferry service has also become a hit with businessmen who claimed that they prefer to travel by sea rather than go by air.

The baggage limit of 100kgs is another selling point of the ferry service.
