Payment for substandard fuel suspended

Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday ordered officials to suspend, with immediate effect, the payment for the 20,000 metric tons of allegedlylow quality fuel.

The Minister has appointed a three-member committee to investigate the deal promptly and submit a report.

The investigation was launched following complaints received from several areas where motorcycles and three wheelers have stalled after pumping the alleged substandard fuel.

The Ministry has opened several hotlines for the public to lodge complaints on the substandard fuel. Regional offices of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will also receive complaints from the public, the Ministry said.

Meanwhile, the CPC officials have assured that quality of the oil released by the Kolonnawa petroleum complex is at the expected level as well as by the Muthurajawela storage.
