NHDA builds 11,000 houses

 

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has built around 11,000 houses within the last three months. It will build 30,000 more houses in the next six months, said Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa.

He made these remarks in an event to donate Rs.7 million among 50 homeless families in Moratuwa.

Before the Janasewana Programme was launched, the NHDA has contributed with about 10,000 houses every year, he said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa promised a house for every citizen. The Government will achieve the target soon, the Minister added.

The President held discussions with six banks to ascertain their support to the NHDA to provide housing loans for selected families, he further said.
