A massive nationwide road development programme is underway with a special focus on the provincial road development under the directions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Implemented by the Ministry of Economic Development, this programme will develop an expanse of over 3,740 km of road, at an estimated cost of Rs. 22,000 million.

As part of this endeavour, the Provincial Road Development Project of the Galle district was inaugurated by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on July 04. Under this Project, an expanse of 310 km road is scheduled to be developed at a cost of Rs. 3,100 million.

The islandwide road development progamme will ensure a quality road network to all rural areas of the country.
