The ceramics industry is experiencing positive growth and there is a gradual improvement in the major markets such as Australia and the USA. India is an emerging market where Sri Lanka could explore more opportunities to increase export volumes, said Sri Lanka Ceramics Council President Dayasiri Warnakulasooriya. The ceramics exports grew from US $ 36.4 million in 2009 to US $ 39.1 million in 2010 and the industry expects the positive growth to continue this year also, he added.
The ceramic industry growth is mainly driven by the booming construction industry where many projects are currently under way. The tourism industry growth also facilitates the progress in the ceramic industry where many hotels are being refurbished and constructed at present, Mr. Warnakulasooriya said.
