Tourism earnings increase

 

Sri Lanka’s Tourism sector has earned US $ 370 million in the first half of 2011 making it one of the fastest growing industries in the country.

According to the Central Bank data tourism revenues had climbed to 41 billion rupees (370 million US dollars) from 27.9 billion (245 million US dollars) a year earlier.

Tourists to the country continue to increase with tourist arrivals rising by 36.9 % during the first half (January-June) of 2011, with a total of 381,538 arrivals to the country in comparison to 278,652 arrivals during the same period last year (2010), according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

Tourist arrivals in the country increased sharply from May 2009 after the restoration of peace.
