There are only 2,924 former LTTE cadres remaining in the rehabilitation centers, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe said.
They are to be released to the society after completing the rehabilitation process, the Commissioner General said.
According to the Commissioner General the government's rehabilitation program has been a success and 7,969 ex-LTTE combatants have already completed the rehabilitation and been released.
The rehabilitated cadres have been given vocational training and education facilities to improve their skills and knowledge.
During the last stages of the humanitarian operation 11,664 former LTTE cadres surrendered to the security forces.
One hundred and eight former members of LTTE are preparing to take the GCE Advanced Level examination in August this year.
Over 50 percent of the rehabilitated ex-combatants had successfully completed the GCE Ordinary Level examination last December.
Meanwhile,the special committee appointed to study the cases of detained LTTE suspects and expedite legal actions where necessary, began its work in January this year.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed the four-member committee to study the cases of detained LTTE suspects and recommend suitable action to expedite the cases against them.
The committee is headed by Deputy Solicitor General Shavindra Fernando and includes Senior State Counsel P. Kumararatnam, Chethiya Goonesekera and Dinal Ratnayake.
Its appointment follows a recommendation by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
