The first Kumbal Perahera of the Kandy Esala Pageant will parade the streets in Kandy tonight.
The perahera will leave the Sri Dalada Maligawa premises at 6.55 p.m and proceed along Dalada Veediya, D.S. Senanayake Veediya, Temple Road, Deva Veediya, Colombo Street, Yatinuwara Street and return to the Maligawa along Raja Veediya. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and the Sri Lanka Railways will launch special bus and train services for commuters going to view the Kandy Esala Perahera festival. Over 1500 additional buses will be deployed by the SLTB to facilitate commuters travelling to Kandy from various parts of the country. The special bus service will commence on August 4 from the Central Bus Stand in Pettah and major cities across the country. The commuters can obtain more information regarding the special bus service on telephone number- 081-2200605. Five mobile monitoring teams have been deployed to supervise the special bus service while three temporary bus parkings have been set up to park additional buses.
Sri Lanka Railways has taken measures to launch an additional three train services from Colombo Fort to Kandy for the convenience of commuters travelling to Kandy.
