The Child Development and Women's Affairs Ministry is to implement programmes to assist mothers and children affected by the three-decade long conflict in the North and East.

Child Development and Women's Affairs Ministry Secretary Sumitra Rahubadda has held discussions with representatives of several United Nations bodies and INGOs in Colombo.

Some of the agencies that have attended the discussion are UNDP, UNICEF and Save the Children Fund.

A team of officials consisting representatives from the Ministry and the international organizations are to visit the North on September 5 and 6 on a fact finding mission.
The main focus on the tour would be to meet with the women and children affected by the war in order to identify their specific needs.
