President receives traditional 'Sannasa' of Kandy Esala Perahera

 

The traditional communication of successful conclusion of the Kandy Esala Perahera was handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

According to the traditional customs, the Custodian of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bndara, along with the Basnayake Nilames of the four Devalas, officially presented the 'Sannasa' to President at the Janadhipathi Mandiraya in Kandy yesterday.

Speaking at the occasion, President Rajapaksa said it is the responsibility of the present generation to preserve Perahera traditions for the future generations.
Youth who take part in the Kandy Esala Perahera belong to a generation who loves their motherland, President said.

President Rajapaksa said that he appreciates the great contribution made by Most Ven Malwathu and Asgiriya Mahanayake Theros for the success of the Kandy Esala Perahera. He also thanked all those who tirelessly worked for the success of the Perahera

Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, and President's Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath were also present.
