President Mahinda Rajapaksa is fulfilling an exceptional and exemplary service to the nation in religious and social aspects, in tandem with the 2600 Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi, stated Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thero.

The Mahanayake Thero made these observations, addressing the gathering at the Sangagatha Dakshina Ceremony for a thousand Buddhist monks, held at the Janadhipathi Mandiraya yesterday (August 15).

He also noted that the meritorious activities undertaken by the President, of which all can be proud as Buddhists, are highly commendable. He also invoked blessings of all citizens on the President that are necessary for the progress of nation-building endeavours.

Subsequent to this event, a special speech was made by Anunayake of the Malwathu Chapter Rev. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thero. He mentioned that the clergy in the country have a special regard for the President for winning the love and respect of all countrymen irrespective of age, by virtue of his Sinhala Buddhist legacy and understanding of the rural essence.

The Incumbent also noted that the President has the attributes necessary for a successful personality. President Rajapaksa is truly a national hero who walks forward with perseverance and the ability to overcome challenges, the Thero said. He also added that a massive development in the country and a psychological development among the people take place under the current presidency.
