Attack on the News Editor of Uthayan

Main suspect arrested

 

The main suspect in the attack on the News Editor of Uthayan newspaper has been taken into police custody on August 15, the Police sources said.

Northern Province Senior DIG Gamini Silva stated that a special police team, as instructed by him, was deployed from Jaffna to apprehend the suspect while at the Kalubowila Hospital in Colombo.

Initial investigations indicated that the individual was a criminal responsible for several criminal acts in the Jaffna area, the DIG revealed.

Uthayan News Editor, G. Kuganathan, was assaulted by an unidentified group and hospitalized on July 29.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa had instructed the IGP to conduct a full scale investigation while the report on the incident was handed over to the President on August 03.
