The United States Government, in two phases, will provide funds to assist the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health to renovate and reconstruct nine hospitals in the conflict-affected areas of Sri Lanka. The renovation of these hospitals will provide essential medical services to conflict affected areas in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts, a US Embassy press release said.
In the first phase, the US will provide funds worth US$ 1.6 million to renovate four hospitals - Divisional Hospital Pallai, Divisional Hospital Poonakary, Base Hospital Mulankavil, and Divisional Hospital Oddusuddan.
"These four hospitals are the first phase in a plan to assist the Ministry of Health-Northern Province in upgrading its healthcare facilities," the Embassy statement said.
In the second phase five more hospitals will undergo renovation and reconstruction with a grant of US$ 1.9 million.
The U.S. said its government remains committed to supporting Sri Lankan government's efforts towards reconstruction and reconciliation in former conflict zones.
