The United People's freedom Alliance (UPFA) yesterday handed in the nominations for upcoming elections of 23 local government bodies.
According to party's General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha the inking of nominations commenced Sunday and many of them have been completed already.
Signing of nominations for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) was also took place yesterday.
The ruling party named senior adviser to the President and former Justice Minister Milinda Moragoda as the mayoral of candidate for the CMC.
Meanwhile, the main opposition United National Party (UNP) has decided to submit nominations on August 24 and 25.
Western Provincial Councilor A. J. M. Muzzamil, is being tipped to be the UNP mayoral nominee for CMC.
Nominations for the elections in 17 key municipal councils, one urban council and five Pradeshiya Sabhas opened on August 18 and will continue till August 25.
All municipal councils in major cities including Colombo, Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, Gampaha, Negombo, Kandy, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Kurunegala, Matale, Badulla, Anuradhapura and Ratnapura are to hold polls.
